Hi, I met Gerry in 1971 at Crystal Palace race circuit, when he was racing Vauxhall Firenza's, I was a serving Police Officer on duty, and have some press pictures taken of me talking to Gerry, he was such a nice and friendly person and I will treasure these photos for ever

I just came across a story in an Australian magazine that had a story about Gerry, thanks to the internet, now I've seen Gerry in action in a range of cars he raced and what a gentleman he was and a very skilled driver , I'm now keen to find out more about him, this great website is a fine tribute to him, thank you, regards Paul .

Sad to see these morons defiling the guest book.
Gerry was a wonderful guy, I met him a couple of times at Brands Hatch, always the gentleman.
If you wanted to find him after the racing you knew where to look, in the bar with his mates.
The best driver Britain has ever produced and also one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet.
RIP Gerry

As a car mad youth,I saw Gerry racing,on the TV in the 70's.He quickly became my hero.I read "only here for the beer" soon afterwards.I was finally priveledged to see him racing live in the TVR tuscan challenge 1990 ish at Donnington. With a very sick car(firing on 7 cylinders) He carved his way from the back of the field to 2nd place.I remember it as if it was yesterday, shouting myself hoarse, urging him on to win.RIP mate, you were a true sporting legend.Shame you weren't a little slimmer,I'm sure you would have been a F1 legend too,if you could have fitted into the cockpit .

I was one of those many motor racing fans who just loved Jerry and his heroic antics. In particular in the The Old Nail, Big Bertha and Baby Bertha. Met him once at Brands at a GP meeting and watched him race at Ingelston (the now out of action circuit near Edinburgh). I remember races where Jerry got into the lead then back off and let a few cars past him, then set about burning them off all over again. Cannot think of any other race driver/car combination that did that. A true hero of motor racing. Thanks for the memories.

I was unfortunate to only see Gerry once. This was at a classic spots car race. He was driving his BDA Anglia and had a battle royal against George Polley until he cooked the brakes going into the esses and George won the second race by default but I dont think either of them would have thought that. A wonderful meeting and a brilliant pair of races. The meeting was in 1989. Its memory stays with to this day I will never forget. Your sorely missed but what a way to pass, in your element.
