- Gerry passed away, from a heart related illness, whilst testing an IROC Chevrolet Camaro at Silverstone on the 21 April 2005.
- Gerry won 623 races throughout a career that spanned 40 years.
- Gerry was a life member of the BRDC.
- In 2002 Gerry was awarded the much coveted "Gold Medal" by the BARC in recognition of his outstanding contribution to British Motorsport.
- Gerry's last competitive drive was in the Alvis "Grey Lady" owned by Ivan Dutton. The Grey Lady was in Gerry's cortege driven by Ivan and his son Tim.
- Gerry was presented with "Old Nail" in 1978 by DTV as a thank you gift and remains in the family to this day.
- Gerry's dream car was a Model A Ford - this finally become a reality when he acquired one in museum condition in 2003.
- Yes, it's true that "Wild" Willy Barrett, a personal friend of Gerry's, performed at Gerry's funeral - he had written a song called "Racing Car" for Gerry shortly before he died.
- Gerry loved all things with an engine - and had been known to drive anything and everything from tractors to lorries - competitively of course!!
- Gerry's party trick (usually performed in a bar) was to do cartwheels! This was no mean feat for somebody of his ample stature!
- Gerry had many steel plates, nuts and bolts in his body - so much so that his nickname amongst family, was the Bionic man.
- In Gerry's childhood he was a champion sprinter and Ice Hockey player.
- Gerry had a penchant for stickers - you could always tell which car was Gerry's in the paddock as it would have a host of stickers in the windscreen.
- Gerry would often challenge people to a quick sprint - and invariably he would outclass them.
- Gerry was a doting Grandfather and adored his four grandchildren, Harry, Daniel, Nathan and Madeleine. Sadly he didn't get to meet his fifth grandchild, Edward Dallas who was born in September 2006.
- Gerry loved soaps - everything from Dallas to Coronation Street and indeed Imperial Leather!
