Published books

Over the course of Gerry's career he was often asked to write a book. He eventually succumbed and in 1978 he wrote his biography, with Jeremy Walton, "Only Here For The Beer" which was published by Haynes in hardback.

This book proved to become a seminal read in every motor enthusiast's library. Indeed, just after Gerry died such was the demand for "Only Here For The Beer" that copies of the original "Only Here For The Beer" were trading on the internet for upwards of £150.

The original book is now out of publication, however after discussions with Haynes it was agreed that a revised edition in paperback would be published.

Competition Driving Cover

Such was the success of "Only Here For The Beer" that he went on to write "Competition Driving" in 1979, published by Foulsham in hardback. Again, this book is now out of publication.

Jeremy Walton also helped write Competition Driving, as Gerry says in his dedication to him "Jeremy drives a typewriter so much better than me!"

Gerry often threatened to write his autobiography but never did - he couldn't afford the libel cases! However, he was a great diary keeper and had kept one from junior school days - so watch this space!
